Puppet Labs (formerly Reductive Labs) is based in Portland, Oregon and we're the creators of Puppet, your System Admin’s best friend. We create tools and extensions to help the server management community spend less time doing mundane tasks, and more time doing the tasks that matter.

Our mission is to lead the development of Puppet, share our experience with others, and provide training, consulting and support for our community. In addition, we host a wide variety of media and other resources which help accelerate the adoption and increase the value of Puppet within IT organizations.

History
Puppet Labs was established in 2005, though the ideas and vision behind the company go back far further. Our CEO, Luke Kanies, is the original author of Puppet, and has done professional consulting around Puppet since 2003.

Luke Kanies

Founder, Chief Executive Officer

Luke Kanies is the CEO and a founder of Puppet Labs, where he provides the vision and direction for the company as it builds next generation data center automation.  He is the original author of Puppet Labs’ primary product, Puppet.  Prior to Puppet Labs, he was a consultant, speaker, and author on topics related to configuration management and system administration.  Kanies received a B.A. in Chemistry from Reed College.

Teyo Tyree

Founder, Vice President, Professional Services

Former Director of IT for 20/20 Research and professional systems administrator, over the past 12 years Teyo has been using and promoting the use of open source tools to enable scaling and efficiency in IT operations. Teyo joined Puppet Labs in July of 2008 and has been traveling the world providing Puppet Labs’ customers with training and consulting.

Scott Campbell

Vice President, Sales

Scott has played a prominent role in several startup software companies, taking them from their early stages of sales and marketing traction to leaders in their respective marketplaces. Most recently, Scott spent 4 years as the Sr. VP of Global Sales at Jive Software.  Prior to Jive, Scott spent 6 years at Tripwire, a leading provider of enterprise security and compliance solutions. While at Tripwire, Scott lead the Western Region Field Sales and Inside Sales organizations. Prior to Tripwire, Scott spent 5 years at Rogue Wave Software, a provider of software development tools that had a successful public offering in 1997.

John Rutherford

John Rutherford

Vice President, Business Development

John oversees all corporate and business development activities at Puppet Labs. Most recently, John was vice president of business development at MySQL, the world’s most popular open source database. In 2008, Sun Microsystems acquired MySQL for a $1 billion. Prior to MySQL, John held senior management positions at Oracle, Iona and Borland Software. With a background in the implementation of corporate strategies, creating business development initiatives and roles in sales management John brings a wealth of industry experience in building corporate relationships which increase product awareness, acceptance and distribution.

James Turnbull

James Turnbull

Director of Operations

A former IT executive in the banking industry and author of five technology books, James has been involved in IT Operations for nearly twenty years and is an advocate of open source technology. He joined Puppet Labs in May of 2010. James manages operations, support and release management for Puppet Labs.
